Coming up: SD 65 Convention! March 29th–Humboldt High School 〰️

  • Conventions are an important part of the grassroots nature of the Minnesota DFL as they are the top governing body at each level of our organization. At Conventions, we handle important party business and gather together to put DFL values into action. Here are the most important pieces of business that may be conducted at a convention:

    • Electing officers to lead the party unit to success for the next election cycle.

    • Electing Delegates to the Congressional District Convention and State Convention

    • Electing individuals to represent the unit on the DFL State Central Committee

    • Endorsing candidates for elected office

    • Voting on resolutions to be added to the DFL Party Platform

    • Making changes to the unit’s constitution and bylaws

    All this work is, quite literally, the business that makes our party run!

  • Our Convention will be March 29th at Humboldt High School. It will begin at 10:30 am and will continue through the day until party business is completed.

  • When you arrive at Humboldt, follow the signs to find the Credentials table–there can be a long line early in the day, so we recommend arriving early. At the Credentials table, you will get a badge that identifies who you are and whether you are a Delegate or Alternate. You will need your credentials to be in the voting space.

  • If you are an Alternate, we still ask that you come to Humboldt and get your Credentials by 10:30. When Convention starts, you will sit in the guest area until all the Delegates have signed in. At that point, the Credentials volunteers will call Alternates back and will upgrade as space allows. This will happen throughout the day.

    As an Alternate, you are welcome to hang with other Delegates except when there is a vote.

  • Our campaign (and likely the other campaigns as well) will have a hospitality room. We will have food and supervised activities for kids. Let us know if you have any dietary restrictions or other needs for Convention by filling out our Convention commitment form.

  • Yes! Conventions are family friendly. Our campaign will offer supervised kid activities in our hospitality room.

Today’s Minneapolis No Kings Rally was a joyful display of democracy and solidarity-music, costumes and signs, and so many friends. Jamie and I led a great team of Marshalls-a role that I love because it means everyone else just gets to show up

I have to give a special shout out to @dprokopf and @worthy_adversary1087 who organized everything that made the convening a great and safe event. Half a lifetime ago, I graduated from @humphrey_school with a Masters of Public Policy with concentrations in Global Policy and Human Rights. Barb Frey was my professor, but also became an invaluable mentor and advocate and friend-helping me build connections to organizations with which I still work today. Last night I was honored to co-host a fundraiser for the Frey Fellowship-a program that embeds new human rights advocates in powerful organizations. In these dark times, there are still so many people choosing light and love and believing in our collective ability to do good.

Resolutions are non-binding, but on an issue like this-where we are bound by restrictions set by the legislature-they are a powerful way for us to speak together for change. Special shout out to @lisaengsarne for offering an amendment that made sure the Resolution asked for what we needed, and to Michael and Cynthia Orange, @mn_momsdemandaction, and the Women of West St. Paul for your advocacy. Another full weekend of family and community. Celebrated the Teamsters strike victory at Farm Aid, where we connected with many friends including the incredible Ai-Jen Poo. Lyla played in her first ever *VARSITY* soccer game. We rallied for St. Paul
Another full weekend of family and community. Celebrated the Teamsters strike victory at Farm Aid, where we connected with many friends including the incredible Ai-Jen Poo. Lyla played in her first ever *VARSITY* soccer game. We rallied for St. Paul Schools and with Tim Walz as he kicked off his re-election campaign. And we joined our CD 4 friends for the Bruce Vento Dinner, where Betty McCollum was recognized for 25 years in Congress. It’s not an easy moment, but we are lucky every day to be surrounded by community and love.
